Sometimes what clients think they want is not actually the best method for effectively and efficiently meeting their needs. I aim to guide clients to the solutions that best serve their needs while helping them avoid paying for things that don't. Taking the time to have a thoughtful plan before embarking on a project always results in a more efficient process and a better end product.
    

4. Form Follows Function - Good design should be based on the needs of the residents and intended use of the
   space (this is in addition to -not in lieu of- pleasing aesthetics).
    

5. K.I.S.S. - The simplest and most elegant solution is usually the best.
    

6. Don't Cheap Out - Efficiency and value are always paramount, but that doesn't mean that the cheapest path is the right one. Costs must be balanced with quality in order to delivery efficiency and value. I typically steer clients away from the cheapest (and usually lowest quality) fixtures/finishes/products as the diminishing returns on longevity, functionality and aesthetics generally outweigh the marginal savings, when compared to the slightly higher priced economical or mid-grade items. With today's online access to a global market, finding attractive and durable items doesn't have to break the bank.
